Our people

Small team. Deep background.

Four engineers. One hard problem: compute that operates reliably in orbit. Backgrounds span embedded flight systems, radiation-tolerant board design, satellite bus integration, RF and downlink architecture, and flight software for constrained environments. El Segundo, CA.

Rob DeMillo, Founder & CEO of Sophia Space

Rob DeMillo

Founder & CEO

Aerospace hardware engineer with experience across embedded flight systems and satellite AIT programs. Founded Sophia Space in El Segundo in 2023 after repeatedly observing the same problem: satellite operators building high-performance payloads that spent most of their useful data waiting in a downlink queue. Leads product strategy, architecture, and operator engagement.

Sophia Space embedded systems engineer team member

Marcus Yuen

Lead Hardware Engineer

Hardware engineer with a background in CubeSat subsystem development at an aerospace engineering startup focused on smallsat bus components. Brings hands-on experience with radiation mitigation strategies, PC/104-stack board design, and component screening for orbital environments. Leads TILE PCB design, SEL protection architecture, and interface hardware.

Sophia Space RF and satellite systems engineer team member

Priya Nair

RF & Systems Engineer

Systems engineer with prior experience at a commercial Earth observation operator, where she worked on downlink link budget analysis, ground station scheduling, and payload-to-bus interface specifications. Brings operator-side perspective to TILE's integration requirements. Leads bus interface specification, link margin analysis, and integration support for early-access operators.

Sophia Space software and systems integration engineer

Daniel Reeves

Software & Integration Engineer

Software engineer with a background in embedded Linux and RTOS development from an embedded systems company working on constrained industrial hardware. Brings depth in deterministic scheduling, memory-constrained inference runtime design, and low-level C/C++ systems programming. Leads TILE flight software, the inference pipeline runtime, and the TILE Toolchain for operator model compilation.

We're a small team building something important

There is no open job board. Hiring at this stage happens through direct conversations with engineers who understand the problem and want to work on it seriously. If your background is in radiation-tolerant hardware design, embedded flight software, satellite AIT, or on-orbit ML inference — and you're in or willing to relocate to the El Segundo area — send a note.
